Brass Bands Northern Ireland are very excited to announce the formation of the National Youth Brass Band for Northern Ireland. The event is currently at discussion stage, but we would like to share the information we have so far.

We are delighted to welcome Les Neish as our Musical Director for the inaugural NYBBNI 2026. Les is a world-renowned musician and educator who has served as a tutor for the National Youth Brass Bands of Great Britain, Scotland, Wales and Switzerland, nurturing the next generation of brass musicians.

At this early stage, BBNI are seeking expressions of interest. We anticipate an age range of 13 to 19 and a playing standard of Grade 6 and above. This is, however, a guide and will be confirmed once we have gauged interest from Northern Ireland’s young players. It is worth keeping in mind, please, that this is a National Youth Band, similar to those in England, Scotland and Wales and may not be suitable for all young players.

We hope that local bands will encourage any young players and percussionists to get involved. We will have lots more exciting info on NYBBNI in the coming months!!
